Taramundi
Taramundi, cradle of rural tourism in Spain, is a destination that combines nature, craftsmanship and tradition. Surrounded by mountains and green valleys, it offers hiking trails such as the Water Trail, which runs through old mills and waterfalls.
Its tradition in cutlery is still alive, with workshops where knives and knives are still handmade. The Ethnographic Ensemble of Os Teixois shows the ingenuity of hydraulic architecture, with mallets, mills and a fulling mill in operation.
With its stone architecture and slate roofs, its gastronomy and its peaceful atmosphere, Taramundi is an ideal place to discover the most authentic essence of western Asturias.

Teixo – Os Teixois Route
The itinerary begins in Teixo, where after leaving the vehicle and passing the last houses we start an easy walk along the road that connects this town with Santa Marina, leaving it to the right by a wide dirt track that leads us after a slight descent to the Arroyo das Mestas.

Route of the Mills
The route begins in the upper part of the village of Bres through a wide dirt road that leads to the Guxo mill, in excellent condition and also has in its vicinity a mini power plant.

Water Route
Its fourteen kilometers allow us to enjoy the water and its use for centuries in the rural environment. From the lower part of Taramundi we take a road that leads us to Mazonovo, where we can visit the Museum of Mills.

Ouroso Route
In the Teixo and just behind the hostel starts the forest track along which begins the walk to the Alto de Ouroso. The path is wide and passable by all-terrain vehicles, so there is hardly any possibility of getting lost. The route runs comfortably between wide pastures, heaths and pine forests of repopulation to reach a landing on which there is a small lagoon where at mid-morning many horses come to this point to water and refresh themselves in the shade of the pines. The animals graze in a semi-wild state and require little attention from their owners, which is why the number of horses has increased considerably in recent years.

Os Teixois is one of the most interesting ethnographic sites in Asturias, where we can find several hydraulic devices recovered and available to anyone who wishes to visit them.

Eo Leche Artisan Cheese Factory
The Eo Leche Taramundi cheese factory is located in the Parque de Empresas Artesanas, about 400 meters from the center of the town of Taramundi.

Ethnographic Museum of Esquíos

Esquíos is a village in the council of Taramundi inhabited for centuries by families of ferreiros, the Lombardía family, who emigrated from Italy to the Basque Country and later to Asturias.

House Museum of Traditional Cutlery

Located in Pardiñas, 1 km from the capital of the council, the museum of the Cutlery offers the possibility of approaching the most representative trade of the council of Taramundi: the navalleiros.

Interactive Museum of the Mills in Mazonovo

This museum was created to show the great variety of hydraulic and hand-operated mills that were used throughout history and in different parts of the world to grind cereals.

Bres Craft Center

The Bres Craft Center is located in the old Casona de Villanueva, in the center of Bres, 5 kilometers from the capital of the council. This center was conceived as a facility to facilitate the knowledge and enhancement of craft activities, both new and traditional of the region.

Knife and razor artisan workshops
Some artisans perform demonstrations in their workshops of the craft they develop. In this way, visitors can see the whole process of elaboration of the products, which also allows them to actively participate in the process.

Bres Water House

The Casa del Agua de Bres, Taramundi, was created with the aim of making known the relationship between cultures and the dynamics of water throughout history. In this installation water is conceived, on the one hand, as a living substance capable of developing a force that men have been using throughout history to perform tasks that require power and routine work.
