In the Teixo and just behind the hostel starts the forest track along which begins the walk to the Alto de Ouroso. The path is wide and passable by all-terrain vehicles, so there is hardly any possibility of getting lost. The route runs comfortably between wide pastures, heaths and pine forests of repopulation to reach a landing on which there is a small lagoon where at mid-morning many horses come to this point to water and refresh themselves in the shade of the pines. The animals graze in a semi-wild state and require little attention from their owners, which is why the number of horses has increased considerably in recent years.
The itinerary continues now with less slope sheltered by small groves of Scots pine, a species that best withstands winter frosts, which is why it has been abundantly planted in the heights of the Sierra de Ouroso. It is also the slowest growing and smaller in size, however its tortuous bearing combined with heathers give rise to a forest of great beauty that in the morning mists offers a magical aspect of enchanted forest. We continue the ascent enjoying excellent views of the peaks of Ancares in Leon, the neighboring province of Lugo, the region of the Oscos and much of the sea of Lugo. Once in the high of Ouroso of 1031 m we return on our steps to the starting point.
To start the route we will move to the village of Espasande and half a kilometer from here in the direction of Taramundi we will see an explanatory panel on the left hand side at the beginning of the route.

The route starts in San Cristobal, a place where we find numerous samples of popular architecture in its purest state, giving us the sensation of having gone back several centuries in time. From its chapel we see the valley of Rio Ahio covered with a beautiful blanket of native forest that dazzles us with its typical colors.
