  • Eo River

The Eo River is one of the natural treasures that vertebrate the Oscos-Eo region, in western Asturias, an area declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

This river rises in Fonteo, in the neighboring province of Lugo (Galicia), and after winding kilometers of clean waters, it marks the natural border between Galicia and Asturias before embracing the Cantabrian Sea in the Eo estuary.

Ría del Eo (mouth of the Eo River)

As it passes through the Oscos-Eo region, the Eo gives landscapes of serene beauty: green valleys, riverside forests and small villages that preserve the Asturian rural essence. Its fresh and well oxygenated waters are the refuge of a rich and diverse river fauna. The river is known for the presence of the Atlantic salmon, which swims upstream every year in a natural spectacle that fascinates locals and visitors. Along with it, the common trout and lampreys find in the Eo an ideal habitat.

But life is not only hidden underwater: on the river banks it is common to see otters gliding nimbly or kingfishers swooping to capture their prey. Herons, cormorants and a great variety of riverside birds complete this vibrant ecosystem, making the Eo a paradise for wildlife and birdwatching lovers.
