We will discover the coast of Castropol and the Cantabrian Sea by the hand of three fantastic beaches. Two of them are awarded year after year with the Blue Flag environmental distinction: Penarronda (Barres) and Arnao (Figueras).
Next to the beautiful port of Figueras and the mouth of the Eo estuary, is the beach of Arnao, located in a hollow and protected from the winds and the attacks of the Bay of Biscay. Its location makes it very sheltered from the winds and the power of the tides of the Bay of Biscay. It has a length of 400 meters when the tide is low, but at high tide there is hardly any sand left uncovered.
Since 2002 the Penarronda beach of Castropol, which shares with the neighboring council of Tapia de Casariego, is a Natural Monument. It is a 600-meter sandy area nestled between the cliffs of A Robaleira and Punta del Corno and that hosts the mouth of the Penarronda River that divides it in two.
We can also enjoy the beach of “San Roman” a small cove without road access located in the town of Figueras, between the shipyards and the Bridge of Saints which can only be accessed at low tide and enjoys a spectacular setting. It is a beach of coarse sand and has an intense activity during the summer season.
With their golden sand and clear waters, they offer a peaceful and picturesque setting, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the sun. Penarronda Beach, in particular, stands out for its wide open spaces and impressive rock formations that emerge at low tide. These beaches invite you to stroll around and enjoy the spectacular views.
